Seven CoCooN Integrated Projects awarded

The first call of the CoCooN – Conflict and Cooperation over Natural Resources in developing Countries - programme resulted in the awarding of seven Integrated Projects from the 45 proposals submitted.

16 Fast Track research projects on conflict awarded

NWO awarded 16 from the 47 proposals submitted for Fast Track research projects into emerging, active, escalating or de-escalating conflicts, under the theme Conflict and Security. In view of the high quality of the proposals submitted, the committee decided to award more proposals than originally foreseen: 3 replacement subsidies and 13 postdoc positions. The projects will start in Autumn 2010.

New call for Fast Track Research into Conflict

The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research has launched a second call for proposals within the theme Conflict and Security. The focus of this call is on Fast Track Research into emerging, active, escalating or de-escalating conflict. Researchers may apply for funding to do research while the conflict is 'active' or suddenly transforming.

December 8th: “Understanding Peace, Conflict and Violence: do we need new approaches?”

ISS- Erasmus University of Rotterdam Conference with Professor Johan Galtung. The conference aims to provide space for scholarly reflection on the conundrums faced by those researching and teaching in peace and conflict studies.

Volkswagen Foundation: Call for proposals for African Researchers

The Volkswagen Foundation opened a call for Pre-Proposals for Postdoctoral Junior Fellowships for African Researchers on “Resources, their Dynamics, and Sustainability – Capacity Development in Comparative and Integrated Approaches”. Deadline for submission is 15 December 2009.

The third and last matchmaking meeting: Hanoi

In Hanoi about 40 participants from twelve different countries gathered to discuss burning issues, knowledge gaps and best practices related to conflict & natural resources. Again linking action and research provided new insights and resulted in constructive partnerships.

Another successful CoCooN matchmaking meeting in Cali

The second matchmaking meeting of the CoCooN Programme, which was held on 22 and 23 September in Cali, Colombia, was very successful. More than 40 participants from eight countries attended to this workshop. The motivation and openness of the participants resulted in lively discussions and in constructive partnerships between participants from North and South, research and non-research institutes, and from different disciplines.

Addis Ababa kick off Cocoon matchmaking meetings

On 15 and 16 September the first of three matchmaking meetings for CoCooN took place in Addis Ababa. About 50 participants from 22 different countries attended the meeting. The meeting especially offered the opportunity to enlarge networks, enhance the establishment of consortia and exchange ideas on elaborating proposals for the CoCooN programme.

WOTRO Science for Global Development has recently launched the first call of the research programme Conflict and Cooperation over Natural Resources in Developing Countries (Cocoon) - integrated projects. The deadline for submitting preliminary proposals is 3 November 2009, 12:00 hrs CET.

The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands have joined forces to launch a new research programme: the Conflict and Cooperation over Natural Resources programme. The first call is scheduled for autumn 2009.
